1. What is FUV?
FUV light refers to another wavelength in the ultraviolet spectrum. Sterilray™ lamps are the only ultraviolet device that can produce light in this wavelength. Sterilray™ lamps wavelength is in the Far UV band with much more photon energy than mercury based 254nm UV-C bulbs. UV-C light takes a long time to be effective. Sterilray’s additional energy breaks either the protein peptide bonds or the disulfide bonds of the DNA, totally killing the microorganism in less than one second.

2. How does it affect germs?
The Sterilray™ uses a new far UV source that targets the proteins of the DNA. The wavelength is close to the peak absorption of the peptide and disulfide bonds. A 1000x micrograph (micrograph) shows the sidewall rupture and blown off segments of the Bacillus atrophaeus. A great advantage of Sterilray™ is that treatment of affected areas can be speedily accomplished while people are present and that it can be applied as often as necessary. Sterilray™ can disinfect rooms on a daily basis even while people are present. The Sterilray™ energy kills microbes, eradicating surface and airborne mold, as well as viruses and bacteria.

3. Does it work?
Sterilray™ will kill most bugs 99.99% in less than one second and 99.9% reduction in about 0.5 seconds. For the first time, it becomes practical to do high level disinfection with the sweep of a wand. Tests conducted by independent labs, including Microbiology Research Associates, have demonstrated its efficacy in destroying MRSA, Acinetobacter and Bacillus atrophaeus.

4. How does FUV relate to UV-C?
Using the best information today, Sterilray™ is at least 6 times less harmful than the UV-C radiation to both eyes and skin. It does not cause DNA problems in humans since it is absorbed at the surface and does not penetrate into live tissue.

5. What's the difference between Sterilray™ lamps and conventional UV bulbs?
Sterilray™ lamps are stronger, work better, and last longer. Independent testing proves that Sterilray™ output is significantly better than the competition at all temperatures, especially under real-life HVAC operating conditions. Sterilray™ is not designed to compete with cheap mercury bulbs that actually do not kill the germs but only stop them from replicating.

6. Does a Sterilray™ lamp contain Mercury?
No. The lamps contain no mercury. It also does not use electrodes that degrade the performance over time. Unlike UV-C bulbs, the lamp is not susceptible to very high or low temperatures. We will check the lamp every 6 months to make sure disinfection times are correctly maintained.

7. Will Sterilray™ kill mold in ducts?
Yes, applying UV-C at the coil dramatically reduces the overall activity in the rest of the A/C system as well as the space. There is scientific evidence of this by Dr.'s Richard Shaughnessy and Estelle Leviten, Tulsa University.

8. Will Sterilray™ kill 100% of all airborne microorganisms?
No, however it will kill up to 99+% depending on the organisms and the required design.

9. Does it produce activated oxygen?
Yes, Sterilray™ devices can produce activated oxygen on high power. Sterilray™ will produce a low level of activated oxygen directly on the surface to deodorize that specific area and produce the highest level of disinfection.
Sterilray’s high power is primarily used for the oxidation of surfaces. This is the power setting of the lamp that will destroy chemicals and odors such as cigarette smoke, VOC’s, diesel fumes and formaldehyde. activated oxygen (O3) is a colorless gas with a distinct, pungent odor. It is a molecule made up of 3 atoms of oxygen. It is three thousand times more potent than chlorine in destroying bacteria and viruses.

10. Isn't activated oxygen bad?
Yes, if the room was filled with activated oxygen. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires activated oxygen output of indoor medical devices to be no more than 0.05 ppm (parts per million). Sterilray™ applies activated oxygen directly to the surface—only the area directly below the Disinfection Wand has any measurable activated oxygen. This dissipates within seconds so no residual activated oxygen remains present in the room or treated area and is always well below the .05 ppm requirement. Once generated, activated oxygen is quite unstable, one of the three oxygen atoms eagerly splits off the molecule and attaches itself to any particle or pollutant with which it comes in contact. That single oxygen atom from the activated oxygen air purifier proceeds to “oxidize” that particle. As a result, the particle will no longer be toxic, and will no longer be able to reproduce, if it is biological. When the single oxygen (O1) molecule oxidizes the particle, it too is destroyed.

11. How will I save money with Sterilray™?
In commercial, industrial or institutional buildings, a Sterilray™ installation offers the most rapid payback in the industry. A typical installation can pay for itself in a few months and save thousands of dollars thereafter in energy and maintenance costs. This is possible because the devices continually clean coils, drain pans, plenums and ducts, reducing or eliminating costly cleaning programs. HVAC energy costs are lowered by improving heat transfer and increasing net cooling capacity. General indoor air quality(IAQ) is improved for better productivity and less absenteeism. Product quality, shelf life and yield in processing plants are improved as well.

12. Can Sterilray™ be used in TB applications?
Yes, Sterilray is effective in destroying the TB bacillus.

13. Does it replace filters?
No, a Sterilray™ fixture is an air conditioning component that is used in addition to other system parts. These include the coil, heating core, fan, dampers, humidifiers, filters, etc. All are designed to do some form of work within the air handler.

14. Don't filters remove microorganisms?
Yes, in an infectious disease application the efficiency and location of a filter should always be a concern. The goal of the filter is to provide a reduction in the total number of microbes. However, viruses can be as small as 0.02 micron, so the target organism needs to be known to provide a predictable result. More importantly, filters do not eliminate microbial growth on coils, in drain pans or in plenums and ductwork. Sterilray™ devices do.

15. What is your cancellation policy?
There is $30 fee associated with canceling less than 48-hours before your designated appointment.
