Lab Reports

Far-UV Sterilray™ of Somersworth, NH used the first generation Far-UV Sterilray™ Disinfection Wand to irradiate various samples of bacteria and the Feline calicivirus at two different labs in Massachusetts.

Method and Equipment:
The method required placing the Far-UV Sterilray™ Disinfection Wand containing a special low efficient Sterilray™ lamp on top of a wood holder. This holder provided a 2 inch separation from the Sterilray™ lamp to the bottom of the Petri dish. The Petri dish containing the sample of bacteria/virus was then placed onto a Plexiglas plate that was positioned under the Disinfection Wand.

Subsequently, a recently calibrated International Light IL1800 radiometer using a SHD022 photo detector was placed next to the sample so that the detector was at the same distance as the bottom of the dish (sample location). Next, the radiometer was zeroed and then put into integrate mode prior to turning on Sterilray™. The irradiance (energy/cm2) was then measured and recorded along with the time of exposure.

The Far-UV Sterilray™ Disinfection Wand has three power settings; Smooth (low), Texture (medium) and Deodor (high). Far-UV Sterilray™ conducted all tests with a special low-power Sterilray™ lamp in order to control the amount of exposure. Typical treatment times with this bulb ranged from 5 seconds to 30 seconds using one of the three power settings. The lamp is approximately 1/30 the power that will be used in the sanitation wand. These times would be reduced by 30-35 times with a standard Sterilray™ lamp. A standard Sterilray™ lamp would achieve the same or better results with exposures of less than 1 second.
