SECTION 2 HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS

ACGIH TLV: 1 ppb Halogen exposure: If the tube is broken, exposure will be less than 1 ppb.
ACGIH TLV UV light emission: 25 mj/cm2.
Inert ingredients include: Fused silica glass, copper, inert gas: approx. 99.99+% by weight. Active ingredients include a proprietary Halogen at 1 ppb if the tube is broken.

 

SECTION 3 PHYSICAL / CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Not applicable. This item is an ultraviolet light producing lamp containing inert gas and a trace amount of proprietary halogen gas having dimensions up to 3 foot long and up to 1.5 inches diameter.

SECTION 4 FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD DATA

Fire and explosion data are not applicable. Under extreme heat, glass envelope might melt or crack.

SECTION 6 HEALTH HAZARD DATA

Ultraviolet Rays
This product (germicidal lamps) is intended for applications only where humans will not be intentionally exposed to the ultraviolet rays. Avoid exposure of persons to direct or reflected germicidal ultraviolet rays. The product will automatically shut off if it moves further than 6 inches from a surface being treated. Adequate eye, hand and arm and lower body protection must be worn by all operators. All operators will wear standard plastic safety glasses for eye protection. All observers and general public should be kept at least 10 feet from product during treatment. There is no residual time required for protection.

Overexposure to direct or reflected rays COULD cause painful eye irritation and reddening of the skin (TLV = 25 mJ/cm2). This has not been verified by test data and may be a very conservative threshold limit value for 8 hour exposure limit on a daily basis.

Ozone
Some ozone can be produced but will not exceed .05 parts per million in areas occupied by people.

SECTION 7 PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING AND USE
See Section 6

Protect lamp from impact and severe shock.
Normal precautions should be taken for collection of broken glass. The lamp is very difficult to break, but breakage will not result in any adverse affects from the partial pressure gas mixture inside.

WASTE DISPOSAL METHOD
All lamps and any broken parts or pieces are to be returned to the manufacturer for evaluation and disposal.

SECTION 8 CONTROL MEASURES

Respiratory protection is non-applicable. Adequate ventilation will tend to prevent excessive accumulation (temporarily > .05 ppm) of ozone if large surface areas are being treated at the ozone producing power level. Protective gloves must be worn and can be cotton or plastic so as to adequately cover hand areas that could become exposed.

Appropriate eye protection consists of standard thin plastic safety glasses with side shields must be worn by all persons using the Far-UV Sterilray Disinfection Wand and anyone assisting with the treatment.

Other protective clothing consists of loose cotton arm, leg and torso covering that could get accidental exposure below the chest area of the body.

Work/Hygienic practices involve the proper knowledge of disinfecting an area without cross contaminating a disinfected area by touching a non-disinfected region and then re-infecting an area after it was previously disinfected.

Power must be turned off and the product stored out of reach from untrained personnel.
